I don’t want to know about minorities but about a total number (even estimated)of american citizens having learned these languages and who still are able to use them (whether fluently or not).
Please be kind enough to quote your sources. Thanks!

Ok, only about 9% of Americans can speak a second language though I don’t know what your point is. I did find out an interesting little tidbit which I kind of knew, because you speak English you already speak a lot of Italian, French and German.
All of ‘em. They just refuse to like the spanish refuse to speak English here in the US.
I’m not sure.
Well most Americans are Italian, German and French immigrants, now 2nd, 3rd generation…..I should think many are able to speak their parents mother tongue
Hmmm. well know them completly, not many. German, French and Spanish are actually the three languages most taught in our high schools. How many of you Europeans know Japaneses, Chinese or Korean? Personally, when I have a child I am going to get a mexican nanny so that my child can know two languages, fluently.
I know about 14. You feeling really smart now?
Ever notice that when a spanish speaking person says he speaka no english, then when you say you have money for them they suddenly speak perfect english
in my country we french kiss our camels and whisper french words in their ear
I took French in school and can still speak it when needed. I worked for the Japanese and can speak a little of that also. My boss would always teach me a little everyday.
In 2000, these were the figures for Americans who spoke other languages at home besides English (2000 U.S. Census figures):
Italian 880,000
German 1.2 million
French 1.4 million
Of course, there are figures for additional languages as well.
I am 100% American, an American who believes it is very important that our students be required to learn at least 2 additional foreign languages in their formative years. I myself speak French and Italian and would love to learn German, Hebrew, Greek, Russian and possibly even Chinese or Arabic.
As for percentages of Americans who speak a language other than their own it apparently stands at around 37% according to National Data by Edwin Rubenstein of ESR Research Economic Consultants. However, in the end, one should be very careful in accepting as fact anything listed on the internet as fact.
Well, according to what I have seen, I would say that maybe a dozen for each language. Of course, I may be exaggerating and very likely are fewer.
Maybe you have heard that a person who speaks several languages is called a polyglot, one who speaks two languages is bilingual, and who speaks only one, is an American
Besides, there are several million of yanks that speak not english, but a dialect
As of 2003, approx. 1,862,000 Americans could speak some form of the French language, 1,094,000 Americans could speak the German language, and 782,000 Americans could speak the Italian language.
about 9% speak a foreign language. We are the second country after Mexico to speak Spanish. Go figure! I am Hispanic and speak French and Italian. I found German a bit difficult, and I would not dare try Chinese.
It’s fun to speak more than one languages.
